$0 raised so far, $12,000 to go! Fundraising Deadline: 12/31/2012 |
The
Blue Mountains are spectacular, verdant and beautiful. They are surrounded by
flowering trees and rushing streams. The Jamaican way is easy and fun-loving, a
visitor can expect to become swept up in the natural rhythm of work and lively
conversation but that is not the whole story. Hurricanes and tropical storms have
destroyed a great deal of the Blue Mountains' infrastructure over the years.
Our teams have worked on long-term development projects that help to stabilize
this impoverished community.
Global
Volunteers has worked with local people on many projects such as: building
footbridges, painting classrooms and community centers, and occasionally
providing outreach to home-bound
seniors. We need you to help us continue their vision of self-reliance.
Please work with us to put your mark on the world through a generous donation
that will help them to continue to build their infrastructure and achieve the
self-reliance they seek. We need you to help us serve this economically poor,
isolated area. We work with resilient villagers who'll captivate you with their
optimistic outlook and surprising resourcefulness.
We
have worked with Blue Mountain community leaders since 1984 to provide
volunteer assistance on labor projects to improve community
and educational facilities, and by supporting efforts to eradicate
disease and hunger.
We help deliver essential services
to local people in a number of ways:
· improving classrooms and school recreation areas
·
repairing community infrastructure
and roads
· assisting with public health outreach
· demonstrating effective hand washing
·
promoting girls' education
By
contributing to the Jamaica Community Infrastructure Fund you will help secure
the future of this developing community and its youngest, most vulnerable
citizens.
